Regular health tests to maintain good health

Every human being is very much concerned about their daily usages like Vehicles, electronic appliances etc., but when it comes to their health, it is usually neglected presuming that their health is in perfect condition. But repent after serious illness has occurred which is already too late.

Our body is a complicated live machine. To make this machine work perfectly, many parts & systems of body should work with co-ordination. From the time of birth, due to continuous working and change of life styles, external influences, certain changes takes place in this machine. Whenever we notice the changes in the smooth functioning of this system, it should be rectified immediately.

After attaining certain age, everyone has to take care of their health by conducting regular tests & checkups to assess the health condition. As the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure” we can take good care of our health if the problem is identified before hand.

We tend to spend huge amounts for our daily appliances but when it comes to our health, we think that it’s a waste of money and we blindly assume that our health is perfect. At this juncture everyone should observe that the change in the life style has a lot of impact on our health like increase in Blood pressure, Cholesterol, Diabetes, and Obesity etc. No significant symptoms will be noticed at the initial stage and that is why these are neglected. But due to the effect of these disorders, serious diseases like, heart attacks, Paralysis are developing. To avoid these complications, health checkups are playing major role.

In some countries, health checkups are mandatory, but in many of the countries, these health checkups are being neglected. Every body has to checkup their health in regular intervals like once in a year and assess the health condition so that precautions can be taken to avoid the disorders and good health can be maintained.

The following tests are to be conducted once in a year

1. BMI: – Obesity & over weight are the main cause for the development of many diseases. Change of dietary habits and lack of physical exercise leading to obesity. The BMI should be counted regularly and see that it is in the required range.• Underweight = <18.5• Normal weight = 18.5-24.9 • Overweight = 25-29.9 • Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

2. Blood pressure: – Heart attack, paralysis, kidney failure etc., and takes place due to blood pressure. Hence individuals who crosses the age of 25-30 years should get the BP checked once in a year. Older persons to check once in a month.

3. Complete Blood Picture ( CBP):- Due to inadequate contents in blood leads to many diseases hence complete blood picture has to be verified that includes hemoglobin(male: 14-17 g/dl, female: 12-15 g/dl), WBC: 4000-11000 cu/mm, platelets: 1.5-4 lakhs, ESR: 0-15mm for men and 0-20mm for women.

4. Stool Examination:- Due to the existence of some types of worms many problems in the digestive system and release of bowel will occur. It is essential to check whether blood is mixed with excreta. With this you will be knowing whether any ulcer or cancer is there in the gut.

5. Urine Examination:- Urine examination is a easy test and it reveals many things like functioning of kidney, diabetics etc.

6. Diabetes:- Diabetes is a severe problem now a days. Persons who crosses 25 yrs of age should get the diabetes test done once in a year to check the glucose content in the blood during fasting and 2 hours after taking the meal.Normal Range: Fasting: 70-110 mg/dl After Food: 110-150 mg/dl

7. Liver Function Test (LFT):- These days hepatitis attacks are common. For many liver diseases, symptoms are not noticed in the beginning. By the time we notice the problem, it is beyond curable condition. Hence it is essential to get the liver test done once in a year.

8. Seram Creatinine:- This blood test reveals the functioning of lungs. Most of lungs disorders will not show any symptoms in the initial stage. Hence by checking the function of lungs it can be treated at the early stage. Adult male: 0.8-1.4 mg/dl Adult female: 0.6-1.1 mg/dl Children: 0.2-1.0 mg/dl

9. Cholesterol(lipid profile):- Excess cholesterol is the main reason for the heart diseases. Normal Range: LDL: <100 HDL: >40 Triglycerides: <150 One who crosses the age of 25-30 should get these tests done with empty stomach once in a year

10. Thyroid:- Due to iodine deficiency and less resistance power Thyroid problems occur. TSH: 0.3-6.0 T3 : 0.6-1.81 T4 : 4.0-12.0 Be cautious and spare some time to think about your health and keep your health fit to enable to live healthy life.
